Working Mom: Putting a Value on Mom’s Work! Part 2

Remember last week when we shared an infographic and our notes about What a Stay at Home Mom (SAHM) is really worth? Today we thought we’d share Part 2 from the series originally posted on Celebrating Mom’s Choice.

Here are the contrasts between a SAHM and a Working Mom. The size of the survey group is worth noting. 2,011 working moms took part in the survey, compared with 6,079 stay at home moms (SAHM).

  • A SAHM fills ten different jobs (we counted 11 … they forgot nurse).
  • A Working Mom make it a complete dozen with an “office job” taking up 40 hours of those weeks.
  • A SAHM has 54.7 hours of overtime, with $75,941 in “value.”
  • A Working Mom has  many of the same jobs, with 57.9 hours of overtime, valued at $90,364.

What we found most interesting is the differences in the base salary. The basic salary for a stay at home mom is $37, 022. For a working mom it is $34,538. That’s a little surprising. What do you think? Does it seem to suggest that maybe moms are underpaid on the job?

As the Infographic below points out … you can’t put a price on being a Mom. Being a mom is lots of professions rolled into one and its an avocation, too. The benefits? Priceless. Moms everywhere will tell you that you can’t put a price on big hugs, sticky-faced kisses, and one-of-a-kind artistic masterpieces. .
