From the Mailbox: Cheri Hallwood’s Books Come to Life

children's author Cheri HallwoodIn April, Cheri Hallwood sent us a note to tell us she was participating in a project that was bringing her picture books to life.

While serving as a judge for the Miller College Children’s Literature Project, she was also awaiting the transformation of her children’s picture books into stage plays. The Curious Polka Dot SurpriseOne Wish for Winifred Witch; and Winter’s First Snowflake

More recently, she sent us an update – with pictures – to share how things turned out. To give you a hint, Cheri couldn’t find just one word:
theater reading

Awesome, amazing, unbelievable, incredible, fantastic … This is the most unforgettable event that I had the pleasure of participating in.

As part of the project, students from Harper Creek High School and Marshall High School transformed these picture book stories into scripts for stage. Students from kindergarten through high school acted the various parts. This year 1,168 students participated in the Miller College Children’s Literature Project, orchestrated by Jenny Andrews, Project Director at Miller College.

As this year’s featured author and artist, both Cheri and illustrator Patricia M. Rose had the opportunity to sit back and enjoy seeing their work come to life on Harper Creek High School’s stage before an audience of over 200.

“The children were absolutely adorable!” said Cheri. “They worked so very long and hard to do their very best, and they were outstanding! It is a night that I will always remember!”

Congratulations, Cheri … encore! encore!
