The Alumni Spotlight is a periodic feature on the official Mom’s Choice Awards® blog. It is part of our ongoing effort to “shine the spotlight” on our honorees and their award-winning, family-friendly products, services, and media.
Dr. Caron Goode (Ed.D., NCC, DAPA) has been mentoring others for many years. Her professional experiences include roles as a special education teacher, educational diagnostician; trainer for parents and educators; psychotherapist in pediatrics, women’s health, and persons with anomalous experiences. She has also worked as a consultant and coach for spiritual living, wellness, and empowerment. She conducts seminar training and is an inspirational speaker and presenter. She holds the titles of and National Certified Counselor and Diplomat of the American Psychotherapy Association and member of the International Association of Coaches, the American Counseling Association, the Transpersonal Psychology Association among others.
In the 2007/2008 cycle, Mom’s Choice Awards founder Tara Paterson honored Caron for her work in creating the Academy for Coaching Parents International and Inspired Parenting.net, a resource for parents. We wanted to catch up with Caron and see what’s new.
MCA: Can you please tell us about the inspiration for the Academy for Coaching Parents International?
Caron: On my mother’s deathbed in 2000, she looked at me and said, “Live your dream.” Those words struck a deep chord in me. After facing nine deaths of family members and clients in five years, my husband Tom and I took a few years to live in the desert and regroup. I spent time assessing and answering questions … “What are my passions? What do I love to do? How can I make a difference?” The ideas of families being able to receive help from a parent coach who had life experience and training grew into the Academy for Coaching Parents International.
MCA: What are your goals for your in the next year?
Caron: My goals for the Academy for Coaching Parents are to open a global portal for training international students and to open a PositiveParenting101 portal where parents can have access to parent coaches, their classes, and most comprehensive parenting information available. I desire that our services mage a significant positive difference in the lives of 21st Century families.
MCA: If someone gave you air time for a 15-second commercial, how would you entice people to participate in Academy programs?
Caron: If you want to turn your passion for helping others into a purposeful, wildly successful home-based business, then you’ll want to take on the role of a lifetime as an ACPI Certified Coach for Parents.
Caron: The easiest part in launching a successful, distance-learning school was maintaining the passion as I gave feet to the vision and watched it unfold. The hardest part of my journey was trying to do it the way my marketing consultants and focus group advised. Their goals and steps were not mine, and I had to shape their suggestions into MY plan, which felt right to my gut and heart. What surprised me the most were the wonderful men and women who showed up to share my same vision and who also wanted to make a difference. When someone tells you they were up in the middle of night, unhappy with their work, looking for something new to do or a different way to earn a living, and they found the Academy for Coaching Parents, you know you did something right!
Caron: My most rewarding experiences have been seeing people enter the ACPI program with specific goals and accomplishing those goals within 12 to 18 months. THAT success is a passionate person going for the gold.
MCA: What did you learn about yourself in the process of creating your award-winning Academy?
Caron: I learned that I was on the right path in turning the vision into a socially responsible business that would make a difference in so many lives when I received the positive feedback and responses from others who reviewed the classes and took the training. Tis the deepest satisfaction to create a recipe for a large group, and have everyone enjoy the flavor and compliment the effort.
Caron: The Mom’s Choice Awards® program offers extensive opportunities to a niche audience. Since the organization was founded by a mom, and the exceptional women who market and make services available to all of us are at the top of their game and professions. The Mom’s Choice Awards® provides the ability to be noticed as well as find a community for focused marketing. You’ve done the homework for us!
MCA: Thank you for the kind words. What does it mean to you to be a Mom’s Choice Awards® alumnus?
Caron: Being an alumnus of the Mom’s Choice Awards® is an honor I continue to cherish, and it allows me to recommend others to this professional organization that provides many opportunities for new authors and other entrepreneurs.
MCA: Following up on that thought, would you recommend the Mom’s Choice Awards® to other entrepreneurs? If so, why?
Caron: Yes! I would say, “ This is your opportunity to shine. This is your chance to see your creative ability and product judged for its quality and relevance by your peers. You have a unique opportunity to market directly to your audience without years of research. Let the Mom’s Choice Awards® bring you the prestige and the market.”
MCA: How have you and/or the Academy for Parenting Coaches International benefited by being a Mom’s Choice Awards® honoree? Do you have any tangible examples?
Caron: My company, ACPI, as well as myself have benefited from our involvement with MCA by the publicity we garnered, the Mom’s choice Awards® seal on the book (with my coauthor, and the recognition of the prestigious award.
