In his book [amazon_link id=”097865840X” target=”_blank” container=”” container_class=”” ]Hey Dad! Let’s Have a Catch![/amazon_link] Harold Theurer shares a young boy’s story about playing catch with his dad.
The book is part autobiographical and offers life lessons for dads, their sons, and family relationships. As Harold often says “the catch” represents more than just practicing baseball skills. “It is a metaphor for communication between father and son/parent and child as the dynamics of the catch change though the years.”
Harold has sponsored a number of Family Catch events which let parents and children celebrate all that playing catch offers us. In the photo on the right, Harold and his son pose for a picture after the first Family Catch event at Doubldeay Field in Cooperstown, NY.
This year about 200 parents and kids headed to the outfield at Richmond County Bank Stadium, home of the Staten Island Yankees, to play some catch … and become stars, as their images were broadcast on the stadium’s big screen, too. The event was held on Sunday, June 26, the official Family Catch Day in the Staten Island Borough.
In this seven-minute video seven-minute video, Harold narrates the story and shares the inspiration for the book. You can also see his presentation and Family Catch event at Doubleday Field and the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
